His great grandfather built train carriages, his grandfather drove steam trains, and his father was a railway signalling engineer – so Chris decided from a young age that the only logical succession was a career making television commercials.
Growing up equidistant between the exciting cinematic hubs of Weston Super Mare and Bristol, Chris studied film at Southampton and eventually clawed his way into the hallowed halls of the BBC, where he found himself making promos for some of his comedy heroes, including Armando Iannucci, Steve Coogan and Charlie Brooker. There, he honed his ability to direct in a wide variety of styles and draw performances from actors and non-actors alike.
At the BBC, he gained notoriety for a Six Nations promo he wrote and directed that was banned, leaked, and then spread like wildfire, leading him into the world of commercials. Since then, his sharp wit and cinematic eye have found a natural home in award-winning work known for its humour, humanity and craft.
