Show Us What A Year Means is a kaleidoscopic journey through a single year in America as witnessed by 7 self-documenting strangers: a doula, a truck driver, a bike messenger, a record store owner, a community organizer, a laundromat worker, and a restaurateur. Originally commissioned as a web series for MailChimp in partnership with Vice, the success of which resulted in MailChimp funding the feature length documentary film version.
Rejecting broad-strokes narratives, director Todd Krolczyk zeroes in on fleeting moments in our subjects' lives (shooting a bird out of a storefront, waiting for a thunderstorm to pass) and weaves them together in a way that feels sacred. The resulting collage is both panoramic and intimate, a mesmerizing celebration of the everyday set against an extraordinary year, 2020.
